Comparison · As of Oct 8, 2026

Jasper AI alternatives: what fits better, depending on why.

The short answer: The best Jasper alternative depends on what you’re missing. For a blog that grows without you writing: Frase or Koala AI. For AI visibility tracking without the Business plan: Frase or Writesonic. For optimizing your own posts for Google: Surfer. For German copy with a German interface: neuroflash. For the odd piece of copy, ChatGPT is often enough, even for free. And if you want to hand off the work entirely, Claire, our own product, is an AI colleague for visibility in ChatGPT and Google.

Claire is our own product and is listed as a separate, labeled option on this page. The alternatives are grouped by why you might switch, not by points. The cards of the writing tools show how they do in our ranking.

Why people switch

What users miss in Jasper. From their reviews.

1

A lot of editing

Texts need checking and rewriting, including the substance. It’s the most common criticism in the reviews we read.

2

Much of it is Business-only

Pro costs $69 a month for one user. More users, AI tracking, Webflow publishing and Semrush keyword data come with the Business plan, priced on request.

3

German

We found no German interface. Several German reviews from 2022 call the German copy partly unnatural; there are no newer German reviews.

4

Subscription and billing

On Trustpilot (3.3 from 4,138 reviews), most of the latest reviews are about subscriptions, cancellation and charges.

Details, ratings and sources: our Jasper review, Trustpilot: Jasper, as of Oct 8, 2026.

Criteria

What to look for. 4 questions for every alternative.

1

What should it produce?

Copy for many channels, or mainly blog posts? That decides whether an all-rounder or a blog tool fits better.

2

How much do you do yourself?

Just writing, or also finding topics and publishing?

3

Which language?

Almost every tool writes in many languages. Few have an interface in another language than English.

4

How well is it backed up?

How many independent reviews the tool has, and what users criticize there.

Alternatives

7 alternatives to Jasper. Grouped by why you switch.

If the blog should grow without you writing

Jasper writes blog posts, but finding topics and publishing is largely up to you. These tools take that over.

Frase

Everything up to publishing, from $49

Frase finds topics from Search Console and competitor gaps, writes full articles in your brand voice, checks them with SEO and GEO scores and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix, by itself if you want. It tracks AI visibility on its $49 Starter plan; at Jasper, that takes the Business plan.

Entry price (pricing page)
$49 a month ($39 billed annually), 10 articles; 7-day trial without a credit card
User ratings
G2 4.8 (308 reviews), Capterra 4.8 (335), Trustpilot 3.8 (64)

Strengths

  • Content editor with scores like Surfer, plus full articles and publishing
  • AI tracking and CMS publishing on the cheapest plan
  • Fact list before writing: the writer only uses facts you approve

Limits, and who’s better off elsewhere

  • Most reviews still describe the old app before the rebuild; Trustpilot is split (53% 5 stars, 36% 1 star)
  • Content calendar and team roles only from Professional ($129); per its terms, fees paid are non-refundable
  • If you publish to Shopify or need a German interface, Koala AI or Claire fit better

Koala AI

Cheap, with an optional autopilot

Koala AI finds topics with an SEO agent, writes full articles and publishes them to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or Ghost, on a schedule by itself from Boost ($99). At $25 a month it starts well below Jasper. There’s no team management, and the review base is small.

Entry price (pricing page)
$25 a month ($20 billed annually) for 45,000 words; 5,000 free words without a credit card
User ratings
Capterra 4.5 (70 reviews), Trustpilot 3.2 (22)

Strengths

  • Cheapest entry with CMS publishing, billed by words
  • Drafts for review or autopilot, set per brand
  • Trustpilot users mostly praise the article quality

Limits, and who’s better off elsewhere

  • No team management: according to the help center, a team shares one login
  • Many critical Trustpilot reviews are about credits, subscriptions and refunds
  • If you need to track ChatGPT and other AI engines, Writesonic does more

If you want someone to take the work off your hands

Not a writing tool but an AI colleague: Claire does the work herself instead of just handing you texts.

Claire

Our product

AI colleague for visibility in ChatGPT and Google

With Jasper, you trigger agents yourself and paste in the results. Claire does the work herself: she finds where you’re missing on Google and in AI answers, closes the gaps with articles in your voice, publishes them after your approval to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify or Shopware and, from Growth, shows whether ChatGPT and Google AI mention you. She doesn’t write emails or ads.

Entry price (pricing page)
€199 a month, about 30 articles; 3 articles free without a credit card
User ratings
We’re collecting independent reviews right now

Strengths

  • Does the work herself: finds gaps, closes them and shows you the results
  • Approval per post by default, autopilot only if you switch it on
  • Personal onboarding on every plan, articles in English or German

Limits, and who’s better off elsewhere

  • No editor for optimizing posts yourself term by term; Surfer or Frase fit that
  • No emails, ads or product copy; Jasper fits that

If you want to track whether AI search mentions you

At Jasper, only the GEO Hub on the Business plan tracks.

Writesonic

AI visibility tracking plus articles, in one plan

Writesonic tracks 50 prompts a day in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews on its Starter plan ($99) and writes 15 articles a month that you publish in one click. Its review base is larger than Jasper’s on Capterra.

Entry price (pricing page)
$99 a month ($79 billed annually), 15 articles; 7-day trial without a credit card
User ratings
Capterra 4.8 (2,102 reviews), Trustpilot 4.6 (5,764)

Strengths

  • AI tracking and articles on every plan, no add-on
  • One-click publishing to several systems
  • Largest review base in this list, though many reviews describe the earlier writing tool

Limits, and who’s better off elsewhere

  • No autopilot: every post goes out with a click
  • Price, and features moved to pricier plans, are frequent complaints on Trustpilot
  • If you want approval-first publishing on a schedule, Koala AI or Claire do that

If you write yourself and want to optimize for Google

Surfer

Write yourself and fine-tune every post for Google

Surfer doesn’t write for every channel, but it’s the more precise SEO tool: the Content Score shows what your post is missing compared with the top results as you write. Surfer AI writes full articles, and from Standard Surfer also tracks AI visibility.

Entry price (pricing page)
€59 a month (€49 billed annually), 10 documents; WordPress and AI tracking from Standard (€119)
User ratings
Capterra 4.9 (422 reviews), G2 4.8 (546)

Strengths

  • Content Editor with a score, the feature users praise most
  • AI tracking in five AI engines daily from Pro
  • Good for giving external writers clear SEO briefs

Limits, and who’s better off elsewhere

  • Without your own writing time, a lot stays undone: drafts to WordPress only, an autonomous agent is only announced
  • Price is the most common complaint from freelancers and small teams
  • If you don’t want to run the blog yourself, Koala AI, Writesonic or Claire fit better

If you write for German-speaking markets

neuroflash

The German all-rounder: blog, product copy, social, email

Like Jasper, neuroflash covers many types of copy, but it comes from Hamburg: German interface, servers in Germany and 932 reviews on OMR Reviews (4.7), a German software review platform. At €42 a month billed annually it starts below Jasper Pro ($59 billed annually). Like Jasper, it doesn’t publish to your CMS.

Entry price (pricing page)
€42 a month billed annually, excl. VAT; SEO blog workflow from Pro (€84)
User ratings
OMR Reviews 4.7 (932 reviews), Trustpilot 4.6 (1,666)

Strengths

  • German interface, servers in Germany, based in Hamburg
  • Users praise the German copy and the ease of use
  • Low entry price for copy of all kinds

Limits, and who’s better off elsewhere

  • You copy texts into your CMS yourself
  • Most common criticism in the reviews: generic phrasing
  • If you want posts published rather than pasted in, Claire or Koala AI fit better

If you only need the odd piece of copy

ChatGPT

The odd piece of copy, even for free

For an email, a post or a first draft, ChatGPT is often enough. According to its pricing page there’s a free plan; it doesn’t come with templates, shared brand voices for a team or a CMS integration. Checking, editing and pasting the result is up to you.

Entry price (pricing page)
Free plan; the paid plans showed no amounts when we retrieved the pricing page
User ratings
OMR Reviews 4.7 (79 reviews)

Strengths

  • Free to use
  • Writes well if you describe exactly what you want
  • Works in English, German and many other languages

Limits, and who’s better off elsewhere

  • No topic plan, no CMS integration, no tracking
  • Every text needs its own good brief
  • For a regular blog, most of the work stays with you

To be honest

For a marketing team that wants campaigns, ads and social posts in one place, Jasper remains strong, especially on the Business plan. The alternatives here are worth it if you only need part of that: a growing blog, AI visibility tracking, SEO for your own posts or German copy.

Questions

Good to know.

What is the best Jasper AI alternative?

It depends on why you’re switching. For a blog that grows without you writing, Frase or Koala AI; for AI visibility tracking without the Business plan, Frase or Writesonic; for optimizing your own posts for Google, Surfer; for German copy, neuroflash. For the odd piece of copy, ChatGPT is often enough. To hand off the work entirely: Claire, our own product. As of October 8, 2026.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Jasper?

Yes. Koala AI starts at $25 a month and Frase at $49, both also publishing to your CMS; Surfer starts at €59 a month, neuroflash at €42 a month billed annually. Jasper Pro costs $69 a month, or $59 billed annually, for one user.

Is there a free alternative to Jasper?

According to its pricing page, ChatGPT has a free plan that’s enough for individual texts. Koala AI gives new accounts 5,000 free words without a credit card, and Writesonic offers a 7-day trial without a credit card. With Claire, our own product, three articles are free.

Is Jasper AI still worth it?

For marketing teams that cover many channels with more than 100 agents and brand voices, yes; Jasper is rated 4.8 on Capterra (1,855 reviews). If you’re a single user or mainly need blog posts, you pay for a lot you won’t use, and teams, AI tracking and publishing only come with the Business plan.

Which Jasper alternative publishes directly to WordPress?

Frase, Koala AI, Writesonic, Claire and Surfer (as a draft, from Standard) publish to WordPress. Frase, Koala and Claire can also publish by themselves, Writesonic in one click. Jasper itself publishes to WordPress only via Zapier.

How we compared

Method and sources, as of Oct 8, 2026

  • Researched on October 8, 2026 by Claire (wordsmattr GmbH, Vienna). Claire is our own product. She isn’t part of the ranking because she isn’t a writing tool; on the alternatives pages she’s labeled as our own product. Every score of the other tools comes with a reason.
  • Ranking: six criteria, 0 to 2 points each, all weighted the same. Features count on any plan with a public price, price counts on the entry plan. Tools with equal points share a place; within a place, the tool with more verified reviews comes first.
  • Alternatives: grouped by why you might switch, not by points. The reasons come from the reviews of the original that we read for our review pages.
  • Pricing and features: the vendors’ pricing, product, help and integration pages on the same day, retrieved from Germany. Prices change; the vendor’s page is binding.
  • Reviews: G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and OMR Reviews, a German software review platform. G2 and Capterra don’t allow automated retrieval; the average and count there come from the Google search result for the page. Many critical Trustpilot reviews are about subscriptions, cancellation and charges; we mention these topics but don’t quote them.
  • Not done: our own test with a trial account and a comparison of writing samples. We judge writing quality only through user reviews. We review the lists regularly, at least quarterly.
