Comparison · As of Oct 8, 2026

AI writing tools compared. What they write, what they cost, what users say.

AI writing tools write with language models like GPT, Claude or Gemini: blog articles, product copy, emails, ads. The differences lie before and after the writing. Some find topics and optimize for Google, some publish straight to your CMS, a few even track whether ChatGPT mentions you. This comparison is about marketing and blog content, not essays or novels. Here are the best-known tools side by side, with prices from the vendors’ own pages and ratings from Capterra, G2 and Trustpilot.

Criteria

What matters. Four questions for every tool.

1

What it writes

Short copy and chat, or full blog articles. And in which languages.

2

What it costs

Entry price from the vendor’s own page, monthly and billed annually, and what’s included: words, articles, users.

3

What users say

Average rating and number of reviews on Capterra, G2 and Trustpilot, plus the strengths and weaknesses that come up again and again.

4

What happens next

Whether the tool finds topics, publishes to your CMS and tracks whether AI search engines mention you.

Who gets rated well. And who keeps going after writing.

On Capterra, all four are at 4.8 or 4.9, with Writesonic and Jasper having the most reviews. They can all write. What sets them apart is whether they also find topics, publish and track.

Recommendation

Which tool fits you. Depending on your use case.

A few texts, no budget

For an email, a social post or a first draft, ChatGPT is often enough, and its pricing page shows a free plan. Checking, editing and publishing are up to you.

A blog that grows on its own

Claire, Koala AI and SEO.ai find topics, write and publish to your CMS, automatically if you want. Koala starts at $25 a month and bills by words, SEO.ai costs $149 per website. Claire starts at €199 a month, with approval per article and tracking in ChatGPT and Google AI.

How Claire works
To be honest

If you need copy of all kinds, from emails to ads, a general AI writing tool like Jasper or neuroflash fits better than Claire. If you write yourself and want to rank better, Surfer is the more precise tool, and for a few texts ChatGPT is often enough. Claire is worth it when your blog should grow every month and nobody on the team has time to find topics, write articles and publish them.

Questions

Good to know.

What is an AI writing tool?

A tool that writes with language models like GPT, Claude or Gemini: blog articles, product copy, emails or ads. Most tools add templates, saved brand voices and SEO help on top of the model. Some also find topics, publish straight to your website or track whether AI search engines mention your brand.

What is the best AI tool to write?

It depends on the text. For the occasional email or post, ChatGPT is often enough. Marketing teams with many channels look at Jasper (4.8 on Capterra from 1,855 reviews). If you write yourself and want to rank on Google, Surfer is the specialist (4.8 on G2 from 546 reviews). If your blog should grow without you writing, you need a tool that finds topics and publishes, such as Claire, Koala AI or SEO.ai (as of October 8, 2026).

Which AI is better than ChatGPT for writing?

For single texts, few are. AI writing tools add structure around the model: templates, saved brand voices, SEO data, team features, and some publish straight to your CMS. That pays off if you write a lot of the same kind of content. For occasional writing, ChatGPT is usually enough.

Is there a free AI writer?

Yes, with limits. ChatGPT has a free plan, and Koala AI gives new accounts 5,000 words without a credit card. Jasper, Surfer and neuroflash offer 7-day trials that require payment details; Writesonic offers 7 days without a credit card. Claire writes three articles for free, also without a credit card.

Does Google penalize AI-generated content?

Not for being AI-generated. Google says its focus is “on the quality of content, rather than how content is produced.” But according to Google, using generative AI tools to generate many pages without adding value for users may violate its spam policy on scaled content abuse. Checking, adding your own knowledge and publishing only what helps readers still matters.

Which AI writing tools publish directly to WordPress?

Among the tools compared here: Writesonic in one click on every plan, Surfer as a draft from its Standard plan, Koala AI and SEO.ai as drafts or automatically, and Claire after your approval or automatically. Jasper connects to WordPress only via Zapier on its Business plan, and neuroflash has no CMS connection (as of October 8, 2026).

Does Claire write emails or ads too?

Claire is an AI marketing agent: it finds topics, researches, writes in your tone and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify or Shopware after your approval, with fact-checking on the Growth plan. For emails, ads and social posts, a general AI writing tool like Jasper or neuroflash is the better choice.

How we compared

Method and sources, as of Oct 8, 2026

  • Compiled on October 8, 2026 by Claire (wordsmattr GmbH, Vienna). Claire writes articles itself and is therefore not neutral. That’s why every number comes with its source and date, and we also say where other tools fit better.
  • Ratings: G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and OMR Reviews (a German software review platform). G2 and Capterra don’t allow automated retrieval. Averages and counts there come from the Google search result for each page; we haven’t read individual reviews there. Strengths and weaknesses rely on the texts on OMR Reviews and Trustpilot.
  • Several of these tools repositioned in 2025 and 2026. Many reviews therefore describe an earlier version of the product; where that’s the case, we say so. OMR Reviews labels reviews written after an invitation with a voucher or donation. That says nothing about individual texts, but it can raise the average.
  • On Trustpilot, many critical reviews are about subscriptions, cancellation and charges. We mention these topics, but we don’t quote them.
  • Reddit: direct retrieval is blocked. We only show the snippets Google Search displays and label them as snippets.
  • Prices and features: the vendors’ pricing, product and help pages, retrieved from Europe on the same day. Some vendors show euros or dollars depending on your location. Whether a tool writes full articles, finds topics, publishes to a CMS or tracks AI visibility, we checked on product, integration and help pages. Prices change; the vendor’s own page is binding.
  • Quotes: verbatim and shortened, with role, rating and date, without names. Quotes from German-language reviews are our translation and marked as such.
  • Not done: our own hands-on test with a trial account, or a comparison of writing samples. Claire itself doesn’t have a profile with reviews on these platforms yet. We review this comparison regularly, at least quarterly.
